Popular dog walking area to close with sewage discharges making the stream a "health hazard to both humans and dogs"

A popular dog walking area will be closed for two days as Southern Water attempt to clear sewage from pumping stations that recently discharged for over 36 hours.

Denmead Parish Council put up signs at Goodmans Field on December 15 advising that the stream had become a “health hazard” following sewage discharges. Those issues have been exacerbated this week with a pumping station that feeds into the stream discharging for 36 hours and 25 minutes ending just before 3pm today (January 28).

The news was confirmed on social media with the parish council stating: “Goodman Fields carpark will be closed between 8am and 4pm, Thursday, January 29 and Friday, January 30. This is to allow Southern Water to access the manhole and clear the sewerage between the pumping stations.

“Sorry for the inconvenience, but I am sure that this will be a positive move to improve the situation on our fields.”

The signs placed on the gates of the field state “the water in the stream is a health hazard for both humans and dogs”.
