The Pompey fanatic was shocked when the midfielder turned up at a celebratory gathering at a Gosport pub.

It was arranged through the hard work of boyfriend Tom Judd, who had contacted the Welshman over the possibility of a signed photograph.

Yet rather than arrange collection at Fratton Park, Donohue offered to instead meet Chloe in person on Sunday, bringing a card.

It proved to be the perfect present for the birthday girl, who had no idea there would be a special guest of Pompey persuasion attending her bash.

Yet the latest injury set-back didn't prevent the 25-year-old from offering to meet supporters.

Afterwards, boyfriend Tom posted messages on Facebook and Twitter thanking Donohue for the classy gesture.

They were subsequently tweeted by Pompey and The News' chief sports writer Neil Allen, attracting plenty of positive comments from supporters towards the former Chesterfield player.

In his Facebook message, Tom wrote: '˜Dion Donohue, what a bloke. Messaged him and asked for a signed photo of himself for my missus birthday as he's her favourite player and he said 'I'll do one better and deliver it myself' and here he is at my dad's pub in Gosport.

'˜Turned up with a card for her and signed the photos I had printed for it.

'˜Unbelievable gesture from him. What football is all about.'

Donohue has made 39 appearances and scored once since joining Pompey for an undisclosed fee in August 2017.

It was his subsequent displays during a maiden Fratton Park campaign which ensured he became Chloe's favourite player.

The Welshman made 35 appearances, establishing himself at left-back as Kenny Jackett's men finished in eighth place.

However, since the summer he has been hampered by a blistered foot, glandular fever, a groin problem and hamstrings issues.

Regardless, Donohue returned to the first-team for a four-game spell this month, netting his maiden Pompey goal against Crawley in the Checkatrade Trophy in the process.

He '“ and Chloe '“ are now hoping he'll be back in football action very soon.
