QA Hospital department complete charity walk

A TEAM of 40 health professionals braved wet and cold weather to complete a charity walk.

Staff from the rheumatology department at Queen Alexandra Hospital, in Cosham, completed the event to raise funds for their unit.

This is the fifth time they have held their sponsored walk which started in Southsea.

Colin Beevor, matron for the department said: ‘Money raised from this event allows us to fund new programmes of patient education and exercise/activity classes.

‘Although the numbers were lower this year, we all had great fun.’

Claire Jeffries, physiotherapy and hydrotherapy manager added: ‘It’s important to remember that when you have arthritis and stiffness pain, exercise can be difficult.

‘But walking is free and may be a good exercise option for you. It helps build strength, maintains joint flexibility, aids in bone health and reduces the risk of osteoporosis.’

The event was supported by staff, patients and their families.
