Royal seal of approval given for Portsmouth Naval Base's new jetty
BUCKINGHAM Palace has given the royal seal of approval to a plan to name the jetty housing the UK's two new aircraft carriers.
The palace has agreed to Princess Royal Jetty as the new name for the berth at Portsmouth Naval Base, currently known as Middle Slip Jetty.
Naval base commander, Commodore Jeremy Rigby was delighted by the approval and said it sent an ‘important message’ that the naval base was ‘moving into a new and exciting era.’

It’s hoped The Princess Royal will formally name the jetty in a ceremony later this year.
