Fans and photographers flocked to 17th-Century village Little Woodham and Alver Valley on Wednesday and Thursday, as shooting for the BBC smash-hit’s next series got under way.

Swift snappers captured leading lady Jodie Whittaker in her new role as the Doctor – while others nabbed selfies and autographs from gameshow legend Bradley Walsh, who is set to play her companion.

There to witness the action on Wednesday afternoon was University of Portsmouth student Lewis Jeffries.

Reflecting on the experience the 20-year-old, who studies film industries and creative writing, said: ‘I was quite bored in one of my lectures when I was scrolling through Twitter and saw film crews were in the area.

‘I decided to make the journey over to Gosport in the afternoon, and by a stroke of luck, I managed to watch it all unfold.

‘I was with another person and Jodie actually saw us and gave us a wave – it was a once-in-a lifetime opportunity.’

Just one day later, life-long Whovian Steve Vernon made the short journey from his Gosport home to a vantage point just yards away from the BBC set.

It was from here he managed to capture crisp photographs of the cast and crew.

The 52-year-old, who works for Scottish and Southern Energy, said: ‘I managed to find a great little side road around Little Woodham, which turned out to be extremely close to where they were filming – I couldn’t believe my luck.

‘I’m a massive fan of the show and I’ve followed each and every incarnation of the Doctor.

‘This is the sort of thing that puts Gosport on the map and it makes me proud to live here.’

Reports say series 11 of Doctor Who will air on BBC One in the autumn.
