But there was disappointment that there was no procession this year as no-one turned up to take part in the parade.

Despite the initial setback, visitors had a great day as they got stuck into the activities on the playing fields at Siskin School, in Nimrod Drive.

Jim Stallard, one of the organisers from Rowner Community Events, said: ‘The kids have enjoyed themselves.

‘We did not do the procession this year due to lack of participants.

‘We did not have as many stalls here this year, but those who have come have made a bit of money.

‘The kids have really enjoyed the water slide.

‘We have had sumo wrestling and water zorbing.’

Mr Stallard was a firm believer that the carnival should continue.

‘But next year I think instead of it being at Siskin School, we are planning on it being in the new community square when it opens,’ he said.

‘It is a large area and also takes up part of the Tesco car park. So people going into Tesco will be able to see what we are doing and come along.’
