Also attended by the Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Hayes, the meeting gave the different services the chance to network, exchange ideas and learn from each other’s experiences.

Across the Solent, more than 500 incidents are attended per year by the independent organisations who fall under SSCO including the Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service (Gafirs), Hamble Rescue and Portsmouth and South Voluntary Lifeguards.

Mr Hayes said: ‘I am delighted to have been invited along to the meeting.

‘Our rescue organisations are one of the finest example of partnership working.

‘We are very fortunate to have great support from our volunteers who take such good care of our safety both on the water and on the surrounding coastline.

‘The marine police unit works closely with the Solent Sea Rescue Organisation and RNLI to look after the security of coastline and the safety of our sailors.’

The Solent is one of Britain’s most popular areas throughout the year for sports and leisure activities including speedboat enthusiasts, jet skiers, windsurfers and dinghy sailors.
