Southsea Library celebrates fifth birthday

A LIBRARY is celebrating its fifth anniversary with a big party.

Based on Palmerston Road, the library will be hosting the festivities on Friday, July 29, between 10am and 3pm.

With music from the Pompey Pluckers, a quiz, face painting and henna tattoos and a visit from Portsmouth Poet Laureate Sam Cox, it promises to be an exciting celebration.

At midday, the Deputy Lord Mayor will make an appearance to cut the birthday cake, and visitors will be allowed into the usually closed-off Southsea Archive Repository.

Manager Dan James, 28, said: ‘The library is a great community hub. We’re right in the middle of Palmerston Road and have so many social clubs using our facilities, as well as the cafe and shop. We just have so much to offer.’
