This week in 1986: 79-year-old takes to road for charity
Disabled Jack, pictured, 79, intended to ride the electric-pedal machine from Portsmouth to Fareham and back.
He hoped to raise at least £500 for the lord mayor’s ‘Help a Child’ appeal – and wanted as many people as possible to join in the fun.

Hide AdJack, of Kensington Road, North End, was already a champion fundraiser, having helped boost the Church of Ascension funds by £12,000 by collecting newspapers for recycling.
It was after reading of the lord mayor’s appeal in The News that he decided to help in whatever way he could.
A holder of the British Empire Medal, Jack planned to embark on his journey on Sunday, March 23.
