THIS WEEK IN 1986: Divers search for £12,000 haul
Navy divers were searching in Camber Dock, Old Portsmouth, for £12,000 worth of stolen diving equipment after a city boatbuilder found part of the stolen haul in the dock.
Detectives believed villains who stole £34,000 worth of experimental ultra-modern diving equipment from a car parked in Southsea at the weekend dumped the whole lot in the Camber Dock.
Boatbuilder Robert Hymers, of Percy Road, Landport, found the £22,000 backpack and oxygen bottles sunk in mud during the evening.
Detectives later called in RN divers from HMS Vernon to begin searching.
