Town celebrates '˜in Bloom' successes

HARD work to keep Gosport tidy has been rewarded after the borough scooped five awards at a regional Bloom contest.

Gosport Borough Council received awards from the South-East in Bloom competition, celebrating communities' efforts to keep their neighbourhoods looking beautiful.

Alver Valley Country Park received a silver gilt award, as did Alverstoke; Crescent Garden was recognised as a gold small park; the Alverstoke Women's Institute received a silver award for its work in Stanley Park, and Gosport and Lee-on-the-Solent received a joint silver award in the small city category.

Chairman of the council's community board, Cllr Graham Burgess, said: '˜These awards show how hard the community works to keep the borough looking good.

'˜The efforts of individual residents and community groups are critical to winning an award, and our success this year is a reward for their hard work and dedication to making the borough an attractive place to live, work and visit.'
