Dog has a lucky escape from kitchen blaze at Hayling home

FIREFIGHTERS have rescued a greyhound from a burning house.

The blaze broke out just after 9.30am yesterday at a property in Havant Road, Hayling Island.

Retained firefighters from the island were joined by crews from Havant and Cosham. They had to break down the front door to get in.

Once inside, firefighters using breathing apparatus searched the house and found the dog, which was alive and well.

It was led outside to safety and the owners of the property, who were out at the time, arrived home shortly afterwards.

Firefighters are still unsure how the blaze began, but it is not being treated as suspicious.

There was smoke damage to the whole of the ground floor and fire badly damaged the kitchen.
