Eastern Road blocked after four-car crash

This was the scene on one of Portsmouth's busiest roads after an accident involving four cars.

The Eastern Road collision happened just before 4.15pm yesterday.

The four cars – a Honda, Citroen and two Renaults – collided close to the junction with Burrfields Road, Copnor, near the Harvester restaurant.

Police closed the road off in both directions between the crash site and Airport Service Road.

With such an important road closed, traffic began backing up around the area.

Firefighters were called to the scene after reports that some occupants of the cars were trapped – but they were all out of their vehicles by the time they arrived.

Paramedics were also called and took one person to hospital with minor injuries.

The road remained closed for several hours while police waited for the vehicles to be removed.
