Helicopter rescues stricken swimmer

THE Coastguard helicopter based at Lee-on-the-Solent was involved in a dramatic rescue of a swimmer.Â

The call came in just after 4pm on Thursday after the a woman got into difficulties while trying to swim through the arch of the ancient rock formation at Durdle Door in Dorset.

She was swept onto the rocks by the current and had to be rescued from a nearby ledge.

The helicopter winched her from the ledge and returned her to the cliff top where she was treated.
