A level crossing barrier failure is causing delays on the railway.

Southern Rail (SR) reports the fault has taken place between Barnham and Chichester stations this morning. “All lines remain open, however, trains in this area will need to go slower then usual,” they added.

The malfunction is affecting trains travelling in both directions between Portsmouth and London, as well as Southampton to Brighton.

Passengers on SR can use their tickets on South Western Railway services between Portsmouth stations and London Waterloo.

“You can travel as normal but should allow up to 20 minutes extra for completing your journey this morning”, SR added. “Please check station screens and planners for the latest information as you may have to get a different train than usual.”
