Progress being madewith Hill Head work

Urgent repair work to stabilise the failed sea defences at Hill Head is continuing to make progress, a council says.

A temporary wall has been formed in front of the damaged seawall using concrete bags and holes in the wall have been plugged along a 20m section.

This week a concrete pump will be put on Cliff Road in Fareham blocking off one lane of traffic, with a stop/go system in place.

The operation will last several hours and is to enable approximately 30 tonnes of concrete to be pumped into the promenade to secure the structure.

The footpath diversion remains in place but the promenade is due to reopen next week.

The seawall will remain under close supervision through the winter period, as the structure is at the end of its design life and prone to further storm damage.

Fareham Borough Council is looking for a permanent solution to replace the aging defences and adhere to the coastal management policy.
