"Serious incident" results in major M27 closures this morning with police and air ambulance attending
The M27 was closed in both directions in the early hours of this morning while police officers attended a “serious incident”.
The motorway was closed between Southampton and Portsmouth this morning (January 6) for approximately three hours following a “police led” incident.

National Highways South East wrote on X early this morning, saying: “The #M27 between #Southampton and #Portsmouth is closed in both directions between J11 and J12.
“This is due to a serious incident Hampshire emergency services are dealing with.”
At approximately 2.30am the westbound carriageway was reopened with police remaining on the scene to complete “the final stages of their investigation before the eastbound carriageway can be reopened safely.”
The air ambulance also responded to the ‘serious incident’ and National Highways confirmed the road fully opened again just after 4am.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance Service have both been contacted for more information.
More updates to follow.
