National Highways has confirmed dates which the Langstone Interchange bridge at Havant will be closed to carry out safety work. It comes after they pushed back by 24 hours to avoid a clash with football and Southampton Boat Show traffic.

A National Highways spokesperson said: “There are a number of weekend events taking place in the Portsmouth and Chichester area during September, so we’ve amended our programme of weekend closures to make sure congestion is kept to a minimum.

“We've been able to delay the start time of our initial weekend closures to 9pm on Saturday evenings.

“This should significantly reduce the impact on the Portsmouth FC home fixture on 5 September and the final day of the Southampton Boat Show on 26 September.”

The closure dates and times are as follows.

  • 9pm on Saturday 5 September to 6am on Monday 7 September.
  • 9pm on Friday 11 September to 6aam on Monday 14 September.
  • 9pm on Saturday 26 September to 6am on Monday 28 September.
  • 9pm on Friday 9 October to 6am on Monday 12 October.

Diversion routes will vary depending on the phase of works during each closure.

As previously reported by The News, lane closures have been in place in the area between Havant and Emsworth for some time while the works are being carried out - with 50mph speed reductions currently in place.
