Traffic jams after teenage cyclist is hit by car near Peel Common Roundabout

A TEENAGE cyclist suffered serious injuries after he was knocked off his bicycle.

The incident happened at 3.30pm today on Gosport Road, near to Peel Common Roundabout.

A police spokesman said the cyclist, a teenage boy, had suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

A spokesman from South Central Ambulance Service said: ‘We were called to the incident involving a 13-year old male who was knocked off his bike by a car going at approximately 30mph at 3.29pm.

‘We sent a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance and the air ambulance car also attended.

‘He sustained facial injuries and lower left arm and left leg injuries. He was taken to Southampton General Hospital at 4.30pm.’

ROMANSE, Hampshire County Council’s traffic information service, tweeted: ‘Gosport Road partially blocked in both directions between B3385/#PeelCommon Rbt and Mark’s Road due to RTI, delays.’

The incident caused long tailbacks and is still ongoing.
