Trains lines from London Waterloo to Portsmouth reopened following tree incident - delays possible

South Western Railway said disruption is now expected until 11am this morning

A busy train line between London and Portsmouth has reopened after an obstructing tree was cleared.

Engineers were deployed to the scene at Godalming railway station this morning (October 19). South Western Railway said the route from London Waterloo towards Portsmouth was blocked, but has since been cleared.

In a previous statement, the firm said delays and cancellations were possible, with trains from London Waterloo to Portsmouth via Guildford being diverted via Eastleigh if possible.

“Following a tree blocking the railway at Godalming, all lines have now reopened,” South Western Railway said. “At this time, we estimate that disruption to our services will end at 11am.

“Train services are now expected to run as booked in both directions through the area, however delays and short notice alterations could happen as stock and crew could be displaced. Please check your journey before travelling. We are very sorry for any disruption to your journey.”
