M27 closure continues today after "major engineering milestone" was reached at the weekend

Works are ongoing on the M27 today to carry out the next phase of works to upgrade Junction 10 after a new underpass was moved into position over the weekend.

The preconstructed box was slid into place after a section of the motorway was demolished in a 19-hour operation. Engineers are now continuing their work to backfill either side of the 65 metre concreate underpass to cement its position.

Once this has been completed then work can begin to reconstruct the motorway carriageway above it.

A diversion is in place along the A27, creating traffic delays yesterday of around 30 minutes in both directions yesterday (Sunday, December 28).

Traffic is expected to be busier today, with drivers urged to plan their journeys and use public transport where they can.
