60 minute delays after car fire and broken down vehicle cause M27 chaos in Hampshire
A CAR fire is causing severe delays on the M27 this evening.
The motorway was shut eastbound between junctions 8 and 9 with all traffic being held.
ROMANSE, Hampshire County Council’s traffic account, warned of delays as a result.
A traffic camera photo shows the dramatic scene of the fire on the M27 this afternoon.
ROMANSE tweeted: ‘M27 Eastbound - All lanes HELD between J8/A3024 Bursledon and J9/A27 Park Gate due to a vehicle fire, delays back to J8.’
Firefighters from Hampshire Fire and Rescue were called to the scene of the car fire.
Highways England South East has warned that there are 60 minute delays on the M27.
They tweeted: ‘If you're travelling M27 eastbound Southampton Fareham please add an additional 60 minutes on to your journey time following the car fire. We'll keep you updated.’
‘Please approach with caution.’

‘I suddenly saw a massive fire’
Ellie Breton, 27, from Whiteley, was a passenger in a car driving westbound when she saw the fire.
She said: 'I was in the car with my boyfriend driving past on the other side of the motorway and suddenly saw a massive fire as we were passing.'
She added: 'I’ve never seen a fire like this before and been so close to it passing. 'My boyfriend and I said to each other that it’s like being in a film. It was the craziest feeling ever. I hope everyone involved is okay.'
