60 minute delays after car fire and broken down vehicle cause M27 chaos in Hampshire

The motorway was shut eastbound between junctions 8 and 9 with all traffic being held.

ROMANSE, Hampshire County Council’s traffic account, warned of delays as a result.

ROMANSE tweeted: ‘M27 Eastbound - All lanes HELD between J8/A3024 Bursledon and J9/A27 Park Gate due to a vehicle fire, delays back to J8.’

Firefighters from Hampshire Fire and Rescue were called to the scene of the car fire.

Highways England South East has warned that there are 60 minute delays on the M27.

They tweeted: ‘If you're travelling M27 eastbound Southampton Fareham please add an additional 60 minutes on to your journey time following the car fire. We'll keep you updated.’

‘Please approach with caution.’
