The two weekend closures will be followed by narrow lanes running over the bridge with a 50mph speed restriction in both directions for up to 10 weeks and is planned to be complete in December.

Work on the bypass – built in 1968 – will include replacing the bridge joints and waterproofing material, resurfacing the eastbound and westbound carriageways and replacing the central reservation over the bridge.

To allow waterproofing material to be replaced, the A27 will be closed from 9pm on Friday to 6am on Monday: The eastbound carriageway will be closed between junction 12 of the M27 and the A2030 Eastern Road roundabout.

The following weekend on Friday September 25 the road will be closed at the same time until Monday, September 28: During that weekend, the A27 westbound carriageway will be closed between the A2030 Eastern Road roundabout and the Portsbridge roundabout.
