Fareham revealed as worst train station for delays in Portsmouth area

There is a 42.7 per cent chance that trains will arrive late at this station.

The figures come from RotaCloud which has released new data revealing the stations that are best and worst for punctuality in the Portsmouth area.

After Fareham, Havant was the second worst for delays with a 40.2 per cent chance that a train will be late.

Passengers are Swanwick are the least likely to be affected by delays, with RotaCloud saying there is just a 25.8 per cent chance of services running behind schedule.

Commuters at Cosham, which had 35.4 per cent chance of delays, were divided on rail services in the area.

Dave Miller, 42, a data analyst said, ‘I regularly commute to London and it can be a nightmare. When you’re doing it everyday, it feels like they’re always late.’

While waitress Alice Edge, 22 was more positive, saying: ‘I find they tend to be okay around here. Not as bad as Southampton, I have to wait more around there.’

Carol House, 63, retired teacher, added: ‘I find trains easy to get.

‘But we have a range of providers here: Southern, Southwest, Great Western Railway, so if one is striking then we have options.’

RotaCloud used data from Network Rail to analyse the punctuality for all trains and stations in the country.

Co-founder James Linton explained: ‘We wanted to take a deeper look into the reliability of the country's trains, and we built our ‘punctuality tool’ to highlight the sheer volume of delays, cancellations and general lateness in the rail network.

‘The country's hardworking railway staff are spread paper thin, and we didn’t build this tool to give them more of a bashing than they're already getting.'

RotaCloud found that The worst station in the UK for punctuality is Lancaster at 63.5 per cent and Cardiff Bay the most punctual, with 94 per cent of all trains on time.
