HMS Warrior closed after emergency services clear Portsmouth Historic Dockyard due to power supply problem

EMERGENCY services were called to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard after a power supply problem on the jetty alongside HMS Warrior.

The Historic Dockyard was closed earlier this morning following an inspection from the onsite electrician.

A team from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service were called as a precautionary measure.

HMS Warrior remains closed and will be closed tomorrow, according to a spokeswoman from the National Museum of the Royal Navy.

She said: ‘This morning the National Museum of the Royal Navy facilities team were alerted to an issue with the power supply to HMS Warrior, on the jetty alongside the ship, at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

‘To ensure the safety of our ships and visitors, the emergency services attended the scene and temporarily closed access to the dockyard.

‘The fault was located quickly and the ship was made safe but will remain closed as further investigations take place.

‘We regret that anyone wishing to visit HMS Warrior will not be able to do so.

‘The museum would like to thank our staff onsite and the emergency services for their quick response to the situation.’

Visitors are asked to contact the museum’s visitor services team if they have any concerns about their tickets.

HMS Warrior was constructed as Britain’s first iron-hulled battleship in 1860, and now serves as a floating museum.
