Plans to create a smart motorway have caused a lot of controversy.

The agency warned people must plan ahead as overnight closures in both directions will take place.

This will happen between junction 4 for the M3 interchange and junction 11 for the Wallington interchange.

They will be between 9pm-6am starting tomorrow, March 1. The closures stop on March 21.

It added: ‘Drivers needing to use the M27 while the closures are in place are advised to plan ahead and leave extra time for their journeys.

All diversions will be fully signed, and closures are subject to change depending on operational requirements or adverse weather conditions.’

It comes as the House of Commons’ Transport Select Committee has started an inquiry into smart motorways following growing concerns about existing projects.
