M275 closed: Stretch of motorway shut after car crashes off road onto roundabout by Portsmouth Park and Ride at Tipner

A CAR has crashed off the M275 onto the ground below.

The vehicle is on the ground at the roundabout near the Park and Ride below as police gather evidence relating to the incident.

The condition of any occupants is not currently known.

People living near the northbound stretch said they heard a ‘loud noise’ just before 10am.

NOTE: Police have since confirmed the driver, in his 40s, sadly died as a result of the crash. You can read our latest update here.

Portsmouth City Council leader Gerald Vernon-Jackson said: ‘There has been a very serious car accident on M275 out of Portsmouth with a car falling onto the roundabout below at Tipner.

‘This is causing traffic hold ups so if you can avoid the area please do so to help the emergency services.’
