A MAJOR road along Southsea seafront has been closed.

Eastney Esplanade has been shut between Canoe Lake and St George's Road this afternoon.

Emergency services are said to be in attendance.

Portsmouth Roads tweeted: ‘Eastney Esplanade closed both directions from Canoe Lake to St George's Road - Emergency Services are in attendance.’

Pompey police have since confirmed that the road is closed due to an unexploded bomb washing up on the beach.
