Minibus hit by lorry's diesel container causing 200-litre spill in Purbrook

A ROAD was closed for several hours after ‘200 litres’ of fuel spilled in a crash.

No one was injured in the incident which saw a diesel tank fall from the back of a pick-up truck and hit a minibus in Ladybridge Road in Purbrook.

The collision happened at around 6.15am today and caused the tank to split, spilling its contents all over the road.

Cosham Fire Station watch manager Daryl Bishop said: ‘We were called at 6.15am. One fire appliance and one specialist vehicle were sent by Hampshire Fire and Rescue.

‘A diesel tank was being carried by pick up truck, it fell of the back and was hit by a minibus, causing the tank to split and spilling diesel on the road.

‘There is approximately 200 litres of diesel on the highway.’

A police spokeswoman added: ‘We were alerted by Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service at 6.20am on Friday to large amounts of diesel on the road at the junction of Ladybridge Road and London Road.

‘We were called to assist with traffic control while Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service dealt with the incident, in which a diesel container came loose from a lorry and was subsequently involved in a collision with a bus, causing it to rupture.

‘No-one was injured.

‘Ladybridge Road was closed for a short time while Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service and the Highways Agency dealt with the incident.’
