More than 12,000 drivers caught speeding through temporary 50mph zone on M27

YELLOW hawk cameras have caught more than 12,000 drivers speeding through a 50mph zone on the M27 in less than a year.

Police figures reveal 12,295 were caught on the motorway stretch between Fareham and Eastleigh since February last year.

Of those, more than 3,200 fixed penalty notices of £100 with three points were dished out up to January this year. Around 3,000 drivers were sent on through speed awareness courses.

Nearly 1,500 drivers were prosecuted. There are more cases underway.
