Motorcyclist killed after crashing into traffic lights at major Southampton junction

A motorcyclist has died after crashing into traffic lights on a busy Hampshire road.

Police are investigating the fatal crash which happened at 7.30am this morning on Shirley Road in Southampton.

Officers were called after reports that a black & white Lexmoto Milano motorbike collided with traffic lights at the junction with Waterloo Road.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said the driver, a man in his 60s, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

His next of kin have been told and are being supported by specialist officers.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or captured the incident on dash cam, is asked to call police 101, quoting the crime reference number 44200209847.
