PCSO climbs down A3(M) bridge in daring rescue of man detained under Mental Health Act

A MAN has been detained by police after he tried to climb down a bridge towards the A3(M).

Police were called into action last night after reports of a person climbing off Bedhampton Bridge.

PCSO Lee Haywood and another officer were able to rescue the man before the situation escalated.

After rescuing the individual, police detained him under the Mental Health Act.

Posting about the incident at 10pm on the Waterlooville Police Facebook page, officers said: ‘We have just detained a person under the Mental Heath Act for their own safety after they were climbing down Bedhampton Bridge toward the A3(M) into live lanes.

‘PCSO Haywood and another PC from response and patrol team climbed down to aid the male, in an effort to stop anyone coming to harm.

‘The person is now in a place of safety.’
