Person hit by train on major Hampshire line between Basingstoke and Eastleigh disrupting Portsmouth Harbour to London Waterloo services

EMERGENCY services are dealing with a major incident on one of Hampshire’s main rail lines this morning.

South Western Railway have reported that a person has been hit by a train between Basingstoke and Eastleigh.

The line is blocked and services are facing disruption until 11am.

In a statement on its website, SWR said: ‘Due to emergency services dealing with an incident between Basingstoke and Eastleigh all lines are blocked.

‘We have received reports that a person has been struck by a train between Basingstoke and Eastleigh. Our response teams are working with the emergency services to assist with the incident.

‘In order to allow emergency services access to the railway all power to the track will need to be switched off in the affected area.’

SWR has said that services services between London Waterloo and Portsmouth Harbour via Eastleigh will divert at Woking and run via Guildford and Havant.

Also services between London Waterloo and Weymouth will divert at Woking and run via Guildford and Havant.

Tickets will be accepted at no extra cost to yourself on the following services:

- Great Western Railway services between Exeter St David's to London Paddington and Basingstoke to Reading.

- CrossCountry services between Basingstoke and Bournemouth.

Replacement buses have been requested for stations between Southampton and Basingstoke, more details to follow.
