Person taken to hospital after air ambulance lands at scene of 'serious' M27 crash near Fareham

An air ambulance landed at the scene of a ‘serious’ crash on the M27 this afternoon.

The motorway was temporarily shut in both directions between Junction 9, for Park Gate, and Junction 8, for Bursledon.

Highways England have said that all lanes have reopened on the eastbound carriageway, however only one lane is open on the westbound side.

Paramedics and police attended the scene alongside fire crews from Portsmouth and Fareham as well as an air ambulance.

One person has been taken to hospital.

A spokeswoman for South Central Ambulance Service said: ‘We were called at 13:50 to the M27 between 9-8 to a collision involving multiple vehicles.

‘We sent to the scene two ambulance crews, a paramedic officer, our Hazardous Area Response Team and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

‘They were assessing three patients, just one of which was treated at the scene by our crews and taken to University Hospital Southampton.’

A spokeswoman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue added: ‘Firefighters from Fareham, Cosham and Hightown were mobilised to the M27 west between J9 and J8.

‘There is an RTC involving two vehicles.

‘Extrication is currently in progress of a female medically trapped in one of the vehicles.’

Delays of up to 40 minutes are currently being reported.

Highways England added that traffic is moving ‘slow’.

They tweeted: ‘#M27 J9 #ParkGate to J8 #Windhover - Traffic is HELD in both directions due to a Serious Road Traffic Collision - #TrafficOfficers, @Hants_fire, @HantsPolRoads,@SCAS999 on scene.’
