A police car and a police van, along with an ambulance, were called to the scene between J12 for the M275, at Portsmouth, and J11 for the A27, at Fareham, at 4.20pm.

Between the two junction, lanes two and three of the motorway were blocked for over an hour as the scene was cleared.

A witness who saw the incident said he believed the car suffered a blowout, causing it to collide with the central reservation.

He said: ‘(A) blue car has had a blow out – hit near side and spun, nearly hitting a black Audi - then hit centre reservation and stopped.’

The emergency services have been contacted to provide further information.
