After driving lessons recommenced on April 12, April 22 marked the first day that driving tests were reopened.

Those at the front of the queue are mainly those who had booked their test during the Covid-19 lockdown, but learners will have to wait a long time to take their tests.

The 23-year-old passed with 10 minors, but had booked her test four times previously.

She said: ‘The tests kept getting cancelled due to the pandemic, which was really frustrating.

‘It’s the best feeling to have passed – but I’m really relieved at the same time. If I hadn’t passed I’d have to wait for a slot to take the test again, which would have been a while.

‘I just got lucky with the date I booked ending up as the first day the tests resumed.

‘There is going to be a lot of people trying to get their tests done and get on the road, especially where there hasn’t been an opportunity to do it.’

To keep herself going during lockdown, Taylor purchased a car of her own, which she has been driving under the supervision of her partner.

Before her test, Taylor also had one refresher session with Driving-Pro.

Her instructor, Danny Farr, is urging people who are learning to drive to get things booked as soon as they can.

The 43-year-old, who has been an instructor for two and a half years, said: ‘I’m so pleased for Taylor – she’s been with me for about a year and a half, but obviously the pandemic got in the way of having consistent lessons.

‘You have to pass your theory test before you can take your practical, but the earliest you can take that right now is September.

‘Where we have been in and out of lockdowns, there are so many people who are waiting to get back behind the wheel – we’re pretty much completely booked up, it’s had a huge impact.’
