Portsmouth vs Arsenal FA Cup: Gas leak disrupting trains to Portsmouth with lines blocked between Fareham and Fratton

TRAINS heading to Portsmouth are facing disruption due to a gas leak.

All lines between Fratton and Fareham are currently blocked.

South Western Railway are reporting that disruption is expected to last until 8pm tonight.

Pompey host Arsenal in the FA cup this evening and many fans will be travelling by train to Fratton Station later today.

SWR tweeted: ‘Due to a gas leak near the railway between Fareham and Fratton all lines are blocked. Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 20:00.’

On its website the rail franchise says that replacement buses have been ‘requested’.

The statement reads: ‘We have been informed of a gas leak near the railway between Fareham and Fratton, blocking all lines. We cannot run our electric trains because the electric third rail has been switched off to prevent ignition of the gas. ‘Services between Portsmouth Harbour and Havant are not currently affected by this problem however if trains and train crews are displaced there may be a knock on impact to these services. ‘We have requested replacement buses to run between these stations. These buses will run between Fratton and Southampton Central, calling at all stations and also between Fratton and Eastleigh, calling at all stations.

‘These buses have been ordered - further details to follow.’
