Portsmouth City Council has approved plans for three sets of speed cushions on Clive Road, in Fratton, in a bid to reduce speeding.

It comes after five road traffic collisions were recorded along the street between March 2015 and February 2020. Checks also found the average speed on the road is 25mph – above the limit of 20mph.

Speaking at a council decision meeting this week, the council's traffic and transport boss, Councillor Lynne Stagg ,said: 'I use this road quite a lot and I do see people speeding and it's quite frightening.'

The cushions will be placed between the junctions with Trafalgar Place and Ethel Road, Ethel Road and Barnes Road and Barnes Road and Guildford Road.

No parking spaces would be permanently removed when the speed bumps are installed.

The scheme will cost £35,000 from Portsmouth City Council’s capital budget.
