Waterlooville man dies after car crashed into a ditch in Southwick

A MAN has died after a car crashed into a ditch last night.

Emergency services rushed to B2177 Southwick Road, Southwick, yesterday evening following the crash.

Police were called at 6.30pm as firefighters from Wickham fire station as well as paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service attended the scene.

A black BMW 3 Series lost control on Southwick Road and crashed into a ditch.

The driver, a man in his 50s from Waterlooville, was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement, Hampshire Constabulary said: ‘Investigations into the exact circumstances of the collision are ongoing and we would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the vehicle prior to the collision, or anyone who may have dash cam footage from that area from around the time of the incident.

‘The collision happened on the southbound carriageway, heading towards Southwick, between Staple Cross Lane and Southwick.’

The incident caused the B1277 to be closed this morning, following investigations from emergency services.

A crew from Wickham Fire Station attended at 6.49pm, before leaving the scene at 8.02pm.

A spokesman from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) said: ‘Wickham firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on Southwick Road at 6.49pm last night.

‘The one vehicle involved had left the road and hit a ditch.’

The B1277 between Portsmouth and Wickham was closed this morning for an accident investigation by emergency services.

Hampshire Traffic monitoring site Romanse reported the road the closure was in North Boarhunt between Fareham Road and Bridge Street in Southwick.
