Vintage walking event in the South Downs

Walkers are invited to a celebratory event at South Downs National Park next weekend.

The park is six years old this month and the Hants Area and South East Hants Group of the Ramblers are marking the occasion on Saturday, April 9.

The walk will take place from the South Downs National Park Centre at Midhurst from 10.30am.

A vintage South Downs bus will collect travellers from Petersfield rail station between 10am and 10.15am before travelling to the centre at Midhurst, where a cup of coffee/tea will be provided .

The bus will then take participants to Petworth for a seven-mile walk back to Midhurst, with a lunch break.

Following afternoon tea, and a presentation, the bus will take rail travellers back to Petersfield.

The walk will be part of the South Downs Vintage Walking Festival and to add to the fun walkers are encouraged to wear vintage clothes.

Owen Plunkett, the event organiser said: ‘We have celebrated the anniversary each year and have always received good support, but as this is a particularly special event, we hope to get even larger numbers this year.’
