WATCH: Woman finds and restores her grandfather's Dunkirk boat

Annie Gabb, 74, found the 30ft boat, called ‘The Anne’ after a Google search, even though she previously believed it had been lost in the war.

It originally belonged to her grandfather, Percy or PJ Darby, who named it after her shortly after she was born.

The vessel was built in 1925 and was used by Allied troops to rescue soldiers from the beaches at Dunkirk and the family feared it was sunk during a rescue mission.

After finding the boat rotting away and failing to sell on EBay two years ago, Mrs Gabb, with her brother, Nick Thompson, tried to restore it to its former glory.

‘The Anne’ had taken part in the 2010 pilgrimage to Dunkirk as part of 70th anniversary commemorations and the Queen’s golden jubilee celebrations on the Thames in 2012.
