Christmas weather forecast for Portsmouth as strong gales warning issued

But what will the weather have in store for us on December 25?

Will we get a white Christmas will snow falling across the Portsmouth area? Or will the weather be more mild and subdue?

The Met Office has now issued its forecast for Christmas Eve and December 25.

It has also put out a yellow weather warning for wind for Boxing Day and December 27. If a yellow-level warning is issued it means disruption may be possible.

Here is what is being forecast for over Christmas:

Christmas Eve

Portsmouth: It will be a clear day in Portsmouth with highs of 6C and lows of 0C.

Gosport: It will be clear in Gosport on Christmas Eve, with highs of 6C and lows of 1C.

Havant: It will be a clear day in Havant with highs of 6C and lows of 0C.

Fareham: It will be clear in Fareham on Christmas Eve, with highs of 5C and lows of 0C.

Waterlooville: It will be a clear day in Waterlooville with highs of 5C and lows of -1C.

Hayling Island: It will be clear in Hayling Island on Christmas Eve, with highs of 6C and lows of 1C.

Christmas Day

Portsmouth: On Christmas it will be clear changing to cloudy by early evening. There will be highs of 4C and lows of 3C.

Gosport: It will be clear changing to cloudy by early evening on Christmas Day in Gosport. There will be highs of 5C and lows of 4C.

Havant: On Christmas it will be clear changing to cloudy by early evening in Havant. There will be highs of 4C and lows of 3C.

Fareham: It will be clear changing to cloudy by early evening on Christmas Day in Fareham. There will be highs of 4C and lows of 3C.

Waterlooville: On Christmas it will be clear changing to cloudy by early evening in Waterlooville. There will be highs of 3C and lows of 1C.

Hayling Island: It will be clear changing to cloudy by early evening on Christmas Day in Hayling Island. There will be highs of 5C and lows of 4C.

Boxing Day

A yellow weather warning is in place across the Portsmouth area from 3pm on Boxing Day until noon on December 27.

On the Met Office’s website it says: ‘Very windy weather is expected for parts of England, Wales and the far south of Scotland, leading to disruption to transport and utilities.

‘Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible.

‘Some roads and bridges may close. Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.

‘Injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.

‘Some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, could happen.’

Winds of up to 60mph are being forecast for Portsmouth, with the gales expected to be strongest in the early hours of December 27.
