Here's how warm it got in Portsmouth area on hottest day of year

People flocked to the beach to make of the glorious weather yesterday and perhaps looking for a way to cool down.

Thursday was the hottest day so far in 2020 – but you might be wondering just how hot it got in the Portsmouth area.

According to the Met Office, temperatures hit a high of 29.6C in Gosport yesterday.

While in other parts of Hampshire, the mercury reached 32.1C, and the county was third for highest temperatures.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: ‘In the list of counties seeing the highest temperatures yesterday Hampshire was third, with a temperature of 32.1 C recorded at three weather stations: Middle Wallop, Odiham and South Farnborough.

‘Only Greater London and Surrey saw higher temperatures.

‘The daily maximum temperatures across the county widely exceeded 30.0 C, but sites nearer the coast were cooler, with the 29.6 C at Gosport being typical.’

Pictures showed that the seafront in Southsea and Old Portsmouth was busy on Thursday but nowhere near as rammed as Bournemouth, where a major incident was declared by the local council.
