Met Office weather warning for ice issued for Portsmouth after snow falls in Hampshire

A new weather warning has been issued after snow fell in parts of Hampshire.

Residents in Clanfield, Swanmore and other areas woke up to heavy snow today.

In Southampton and Winchester there were reports of ‘thundersnow’ after a ‘loud bang’ was heard in the morning.

A warning for snow remains in place until 11.59pm tonight.

However the Met Office has now issued a fresh weather warning for ice across Hampshire, including for Portsmouth, Gosport, Havant, Fareham, Havant and Waterlooville.

It comes into force at midnight and lasts until 11am tomorrow.

On its website, the forecaster warns: ‘Icy patches will likely cause some travel disruption.

‘Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.

‘Icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.’

Temperatures are forecast to plunge to -1C in Portsmouth overnight.
