Portsmouth weather: Met Office issue another wind weather warning for this weekend

Gusts of up to 45mph are forecast in the city with a chance of heavy rain falling early on Saturday.

The yellow-level warning, which means severe weather is possible, is in place from midday on Saturday to midday on Sunday.

A Met Office spokesperson said: ‘Strong winds will move into south-western parts of the UK by Saturday afternoon, and steadily move north-east through the course of Saturday evening and overnight into Sunday morning.

‘Gusts of 50-60 mph are likely quite widely, and especially in association with heavier showers across England and Wales during Saturday afternoon.

‘More isolated gusts of 65-70 mph, particularly on coasts and other exposed areas, are probable.’

Forecasters have warned of possible travel disruption, and some coastal towns and cities could have spray and large waves.

Gusts could reach 45mph on Saturday afternoon with some light showers possible.

The stormy weather is expected to subside by Sunday morning although winds of up to 40mph are still forecast.

This latest weather warning comes after Storm Ciara and Storm Dennis battered the Portsmouth area on successive weekends.

The impact of the two storms, which brought winds of up to 60mph to the area, led to road closures, fallen trees and disrupted train and ferry services.

Part of Southsea seafront was also shut off, and a coastguard rescue team issued a warning about not ignoring signs for road closures.
