Storm Alex: Portsmouth and Fareham firefighters rescue motorists from water in Hampshire

A MOTORIST had to be rescued after getting their car stuck in water.

Firefighters from across the county were called to Botany Bay Road in the Sholing area of Southampton to aid the driver.

Storm Alex brought heavy rain and strong winds to the region on Friday.

The car became stranded in standing water and the driver was unable to open the door, Hampshire Fire and Rescue have said.

Fire crews from Fareham and Cosham were among those who attended the scene yesterday.

A spokesman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue said: ‘A call was received at 10:53 am on Friday 2nd October regarding a person stuck in a car in the Sholing area of Southampton.

‘The driver was unable to get out of vehicle due to the water pressure on the door. The vehicle was in 2.5 feet of standing water.

‘Crews and appliances from Fareham Fire Station, Hightown Fire Station, Cosham Fire Station and Redbridge Fire Station attended the scene.

‘Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service water rescue unit from Fareham Fire Station used a sled to carry out the rescue.’

The spokesman continued: ‘Partner agency South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) also attended the scene to examine the casualty.

‘The rescue was completed by 11:35 am.

‘Due to heavy rainfall causing flooding please take extra care on the roads.’
