Storm Jorge: Here's what Portsmouth residents can expect this weekend

A yellow weather warning for strong winds is in place from midday on Saturday until midday on Sunday.

Storm Jorge is expected to bring gales of up to 51mph to the city over the weekend.

The Met Office warns that a ‘spell of strong winds is expected’ and that ‘some delays’ are expected on ‘road, rail, air and ferry transport'.

The forecasters have also said that ‘delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely’ and that ‘some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by spray and/or large waves’.

Here’s what the forecast is looking like for the next few days:

Friday

There will be heavy rain for much of the day, so it will be a soggy end to the working week.

Met Office is predicting rainy conditions until 6pm.

It will then remain overcast throughout the rest of Friday.

Winds will start to pick up in the afternoon and will reach speeds of 40mph by 9pm.

There will be highs of 11C but it will feel like 7C.

Saturday

The Met Office weather warning comes into force at midday but the winds will be strong overnight and in the morning as well.

According to the latest forecast the gales will be strongest at from 4am to 7am – reaching speeds of 51mph at around 6am.

There will be heavy rain to start the morning with scattered showers throughout the rest of the day.

After a slight lull in the mid-morning, the winds will pick up strength again and gales of 46mph are expect at 2pm.

The Met Office is predicting highs of 8C but it will feel much colder with it expected to feel like its 3C or 2C for much of the day.

Sunday

The winds will not be as strong on Sunday according to the latest forecast.

The Met Office is predicting that they will reach speeds of 37mph between midnight and 3am, which is when they will be strongest.

However they will remain around the 30mph mark until late afternoon.

From 3pm until the end of the day the winds will get weaker dropping to speeds of 23mph by 9pm.

Rain showers are expected between 9am and 6pm but they are not expected to be heavy.

There will be highs of 8C and lows of 4C.
