Wind weather warning issued for Portsmouth and Hampshire with risk of power and travel disruption

PORTSMOUTH residents are being warned that there is a risk of travel and power disruption as gale force winds forecast.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for across the Portsmouth area for between 4am and 6pm tomorrow.

Initially the alert had been issued for eastern Hampshire but has now been expanded.

On its website, the Met Office says: ‘Strong winds on Friday are expected to lead to some travel disruption and perhaps some temporary power disruption.

Weather warning for 60mph winds issued for parts of Hampshire

‘Wind gusts of 45-50 mph are expected fairly widely inland with gusts of 55-60 mph possible around coasts and over hills.

‘Winds are then expected to gradually ease during late afternoon and evening.

‘Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely. Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer.

‘Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely.

‘Some short term loss of power and other services is possible.

‘It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities are affected by spray and/or large waves.’

According to the Met Office forecast the winds will be strongest in Portsmouth between 11am and 2pm, when gusts will reach speeds of 45mph.
