They might not have known it, but the crowds who packed the Historic Dockyard for Victorious Vintage in 2012 were in at the start of something good

There's always a glow of smug self-satisfaction to be able to say '˜I was there' at the outset of something big.

It was clear from the beginning of Victorious that Portsmouth was on to a winner.

Of course, back in 2012 it was the two-V festival –Victorious Vintage – a fledgling two-day bash which drew an astonishing 35,000 people within the walls of the Historic Dockyard.

Few expected numbers of that magnitude, but it showed there was an appetite for something much larger in the city.

And so we move to this weekend’s Victorious with headliners such as Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Manic Street Preachers, Travis and Editors expected to play to about 120,000 on Southsea Common.

As reported in The News, the organisers hope next year’s, with music over three days and camping thrown in, might draw 200,000.
