The Met Office is warning of potential power cuts and even 'danger to life' as the stormy conditions hit our area in the coming hours. 

Winds could reach nearly 60mph in some places over the next 24 hours. 

The forecasters have issued a yellow weather warning from 5pm today until 9pm tomorrow (September 21). 

When will the winds hit? 

Winds will grow steadily stronger across the area throughout the day '“ reaching 45mph by 11pm tonight in Portsmouth '“ but will be strongest and most damaging during the early hours of tomorrow morning. 

With potential high speeds of 52mph in Portsmouth at around 1am on Friday. 

Where will the winds be strongest? 

In Portsmouth the winds will reach a max speed of 52mph in the early hours of tomorrow. 

While in Gosport the winds will reach 53mph at around 1am on Friday. 

In Havant and Fareham the max speeds the winds are expected to reach are again 52mph. 

The winds will reach speeds of 51mph in the early hours of the morning in Waterlooville on Friday. 

However the winds will be strongest in Hayling Island '“ where speeds will reach 57mph at around 1am tomorrow morning. 

What does the weather warning say

The Met Office warning reads: '˜An area of strong winds is likely to develop across parts of Wales and southwest England during Thursday evening before spreading further eastwards across England.

'˜Most likely is that we will see gusts of 45-50 mph in a few spots inland as well as more widely around exposed coasts.

'˜However, there is a small chance that stronger winds will develop in some areas with 60-65 mph gusts possible, particularly overnight into Friday across eastern England. 

'˜The strong winds will accompanied by short-lived outbreaks of very heavy rain in places.

'˜There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs or through falling trees and branches.

'˜This could also bring the chance of injuries and danger to life.'
